Yes and yes IMHO, and start looking for someone now. Although, if you continue to post a lot of pics, you might be able to get a general idea of its worth. But do so in the C1 & C2 SECTION where the midyear guys hang out. Post a lot of pics there and you will get a good ball park figure of what its worth.

Dont be afraid to post a lot of pics and ask a lot of questions.

Will a moderator move this thread to the C1 and C2 forum, if asked? It took me hours to load those pics out here.

Marty - great story and best of luck in purchasing the car.
What I am going to do is move this to the C1/C2 section where you can update the thread as you go along. Plus you’ll get comments from other C2 owners.

Welcome,
If you have bought it already, you are going to go for a $$$ ride before you get it to go for a ride. But it is worth the pain and Z$Z$$ if you really are a car guy. The only regrets I have had with the old cars is letting them go.

First of all, welcome to the Forum! I just came across this post, and was surprised to see all the progress that's already been made on the restoration. Looks like your restorer really knows what he's doing. If the rest of the car turns out like the frame & power plant has, you'll have a first rate car on your hands. Great that you've got your uncles's ride back.
Keep those pictures coming. We always like to look. Best of luck.

Matty, welcome to the Corvette Forum. Many here have entered the hobby as you are, after being exposed to them by a relative when we were very young. It can easily become a lifelong obsession.
One thing I would suggest is you come up with a figure that you think it is going to cost and be prepared to deal with double that amount. Once the car is done there will not be a lot of time for negotiating as the builder is going to want to sell it. If it's done well, there will likely be others interested in it as well. If he has already given you a price to expect, I would still be prepared for the unexpected.
Good luck and keep us posted... GUSTO

Welcome to the forum!
You may want to consider starting to ask the current owners sooner than later if they have an approximate number in mind for an anticipated selling price. It may shock you (or not) how expensive the restoration process will be.

It is not my intention to burst your bubble. Based on the pictures posted so far the performed work is more along the lines of a rebuild, refurbish. renovation or some other appropriate term. In a strict sense it is not a restoration. In your interest there are significant price differences. Restoration is a well worn and abused word. You have received very sound advice to retain a qualified appraiser now. This will give that person a greater insight as to what the car actually is. You can't educate yourself enough. There are several schools of thought and nuances to the vintage Corvette hobby. Well meaning but uneducated buyers overpay with some frequency and experience a rude awakening after the fact.
Best of luck in this endeavor. I hope it works out to your satisfaction and fulfills your dream.

Appreciate everyone's advice/support, and especially your excitement. Reassures me that I'm among like-minded individuals.
How do I find a reputable appraiser? The vehicle is in southeast Missouri, about 100 miles from St Louis.
The current owner and I talked early on, about a year ago, and his intent is to return it to a driver status, which is exactly how I'd like to have it. Because I want to drive it, and not freak out if my daughter spills her ICEE in it. If that is not exactly a restoration, that's fine. The only reason I want a good value assigned at the car's completion is so we both leave the transaction satisfied, and neither gets screwed.
Seems like these 64 convertibles with a 327 go somewhere in the $40k - $55k range. It is not a rare or numbers matching car - the engine is not original and has been bored 0.60 over. I'll pay in that range for it, but will certainly not pay double that. I will ask the owner what his cost guesstimate is and go from there.
This car is magical to me, because of my personal connections to it and my Uncle. Just seeing the pics they periodically send gives me shivers. I want it to stay that way. I do not want this process/experience to get stressful, dramatized, or painful. So that basis will ultimately guide the way ahead.

Depending on what they spend, and what they value their time at, and how detailed they get in rebuilding/restoring it, you may find the price higher than you are expecting.
$40K buys a car that needs a fair amount of work to be really nice, or one that was restored 20 years ago and shows its age with 50 foot paint and worn upholstery and grungy engine compartment.. The price goes up from there.
Good luck.

don't know if anyone has noticed, but there is a yellow mid year in the period pictures of car's thread that has the same nose treatment as this 64, glassed in headlight buckets with the lights installed under the cut out buckets. I don't remember the page #
