Default Why are they called mid-year corvettes?

I'm curious and thought this would be the group that could answer this question.
Why are 1963 to 1967 vettes called mid-years?

I have always loved this generation of vettes and one day soon hope to own one. (65 - 67 roadster)

I've asked a couple of mid-year corvette owners and they did not know.

Do you?

Thanks,

They got the name after the Sharks came along. They were the middle years.

In those days, when no one had heard of C4 and C5 Corvettes, and therefore didn't use the terms C3 or C2, the 1963-67 cars were the mid-60s Corvettes between the first design (53-62) and third design (68-up)..........therefore, mid-year.

Call 'em mid-years, call 'em C2s, or call 'em Sting Rays..........but God they're something aren't they! :D

Because they were produced for only five years in the mid 60s?

How about because they were built ('63-'67) in the years exactly in the middle between '60 and '70? :jester
