I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on buying some 7 inch wide 15 inch diameter American Torque Thrust wheels for my 65 convertible. Are the standard wheel studs long enough for these wheels? I want to make sure I have all my bases covered prior to purchase.
This question is best answered by the wheel manufacturer.
However, if you know the thickness of the hub on the wheel and the type and projection of the lug nut, you can figure it out. Rather tough without the wheel on hand.
Remember, you need a minimum engagement into the lug nut equal to the diameter of the stud (7/16" for C1 and C2s I believe). I like to have 1/8" more than the minimum.
Maybe the guys with the Torque Thrust wheels can give you the wheel hub thickness and lug nut style, etc.
The new Americans take a tapered seat lug. You can buy (and should) a deep tapered seat lug for them that way you will pick up extra threads. BTW ,I just bought a set for my race car. The old Americans take a flat seat lug that extends into the wheel.
I contacted American Racing regarding the stud length on their 7 inch wide 15 inch OD Torque Thrust wheels. I'm still awaiting their response. I'll share it once I have the info.
I did speak with Jegs and they said the standard wheel studs would be fine, but I need to change the wheel nuts to work with the wheels.
Just received this message from American Racing regarding wheel stud length and their Torque Thrust wheels. I wanted to make sure I passed it on.
"Chris,
Your stock length wheel studs will work with the Torq Thrust wheels. You can use the following rule to determine if your lug studs are long enough.
Thread engagement length must be equal to or greater than the diameter of the fastener. In other words, if the stud is 7/16” in diameter, the nut must engage onto the stud by at least 7/16”."
