gbvette62 and Dennis, do you think the car may have had a front collision that damaged the hood and that is why the 63-64 nose is there along with a small block hood if indeed this was a big block car? Any place in particular I should be looking for the repairs? If it was the low hp 427, do the gauges and instrument sticker match up? The car used to have all 4 center caps. When I go back up in several weeks for the estate auction I will search a storage building for the other three. I didn't have time to go through it.

3 of the 4 headlights are T3.

I found the name of the previous owner he bought it from in April of 78. I haven't found the owner yet, but if an old newspaper is correct and it is the previous owner, they had a baby in March of 79 and that may be why he sold it. I am going to keep trying to find that previous owner.

Thanks again
when you get to the point of paint you will find out a lot. the base fiberglass of the 63-64 was Blond in color, 65-66 gray and 67 black. back in the day a lot of these cars were repaired from junkyard parts and not new stock from GM. I did my share of that in the 60's and 70's. I still have several rear 1/4 panels for 63-64 that were salvaged.

good luck

Thanks guys. Still trying to find the vin on the transmission. In relation to these pictures on the driver side, which direction do I need to go?

Take a pic of the grill surround area and the way the grill is attached to the car. This may tell about the front end. Look up in the front fender wells to see if sections of fiberglass have been joined perpendicular to the body lines. Also, one of your pics of the car show a different color tone from the front fenders forward. Look at the backside of the parking lights for signs of glass work. Dennis

Thanks Dennis. Will do. Here are parts and books I found. I think the bigger carb was on it when he got it and replaced with the one on now.

The Standard Blue Streak box must have some sort of aftermarket ignition part in it, possibly a ballast resister or a set of points?

The black metal plate, with the large hole in it, is a 63-72 bell housing inspection plate for use with the 10.5" clutch (bell housing casting number 3840383).

To the left are some Holley carb parts, possibly a rebuild kit, and at the bottom left, a carb base plate.

The carb in the center of this picture, may be an original carb for the car. There should be a set of numbers stamped in the air horn, that can be used to identify the carb.

The carb in the lower right is likely a replacement Holley of some sort. It too would have numbers on the air horn, to identify it with. This carb is missing the choke butterfly plate. I'm guessing the butterfly in your earlier picture, is from this carb.

The Torker Edelbrock manifold in the box is not a good street manifold. You have a good selection of manuals. They will be very useful in the future. Keep at it! Dennis

Not positive but all the gauges for a 350hp and a '67 390hp are the same. 60lb oil gauge and 6,000 rpm tach red line. So probably the same code letters tag.

Elwood, sorry to here about your brother. Glad for you that you were able to acquire the car to go with the memories. This is going to be an interesting tread, and look forward to following on. Take your time, do it right, but be careful how deep you get. I spent 6 years to get mine complete and enjoyed most every minute of it.

"LC" clusters were also used for the L36 in 66 & 67 (427-390hp). Given the car has other signs of starting life as a BB (rear sway bar, half-shaft caps, rad, etc) I'm thinking it was an L36 before all the changes. Too bad the fuel line at the front has been cut off and "hosed".

Can you post a pic of the lower passenger side of the fire wall from the engine side? Need to see of there's the added wire harness clip. Also you should measure the diameter of the front sway bar ... it will be 15/16" for BB or 3/4" for SB (although this could have been changed if there was heavy frontend damage. Bill

I will get those pic and measurements tomorrow. Thanks you to all. I will also scope behind the cluster and see if there is a date stamp.

Here is the date stamp on the instrument cluster

.

Also, what went here on the driver side?

And the front sway bar is 7/8". It's in between the two measurements you gave so could it be from a different year?

What are these holes on the pass side? Is that where the expansion tank bolted on?

I'm assuming this holley choke lever was not factory, if that's what it is.

The cluster date looks like Sept 10 or 18 1966. Windshield washer reservoir sits in that bracket and is made of white plastic material. The holes are for a bracket that would hold both heater hoses. The over flow tank for the cooling system would sit just above the battery. The Holley **** would have been for the manual choke on the carb. Dennis

If this was the smaller horse big block, would:

It have the small block hood?

Would the motor mounts be in a different spot?

Would it have a different transmission?

Would the car sit higher in the front than it does now?

Also, does it look like the front steering is hitting the oil pan?

Sorry for all the questions, but I have a lot to learn and want to tell my son the correct answers so he will know to pass it along later.

In the last picture of the group of firewall shots there is a black plug not connected to anything. Any idea what is supposed to be plugged in there?

All big blocks used the big block hood.

No

No

The heavier big block used stiffer springs, which would cause it to sit higher, when the lighter small block engine is installed.

Yes it does. It's hard to tell from the picture, but it doesn't look like a Corvette pan, which may be why it's hitting. It appears that the drain plug is on the side of the pan. Corvette pans have the drain in the rear of the pan.

Thanks gb. The drain plug is on the side. When you say the heavier big block, does that mean the higher horse or just big block in general?

I guess this isn't the original transmission either. I don't see a vin stamp on the driver side, that is if I am looking in the right spot.
