Default Window switch problem solved

Maybe this will help someone. In my '60 Corvette, the passenger's electric window switch worked to raise the window but not lower it. Assuming the switch was worn out after 58 years, I ordered a new one. It arrived and prior to re-installing I tested it. The window went up but not down. I thought it was impossible for the new switch to be defective so I searched for a common cause. The pins on the original switch were badly corroded. With some emery paper, I cleaned the contacts and the window operated perfectly up and down. I returned the new window switch. So, fellow forum members, sometime the simplest fix is not the most obvious. If your window switch won't work, check the contacts first before buying a new part.

Glad you fixed the problem. Unfortunately we can no longer assume that a new electrical part is not defective. The high rate of failure for new parts makes you question your diagnostic skills when you replace what you believe to be a bad part with a new one and the problem persists. It didn't happen when parts were made in the USA.
