Default C1 fuel injection—

Has anyone ever encountered a high pitched whistle coming from the fuel injection unit after it warms up. It seems like when it does this, it is hard to restart until it cool down. Then it starts and no whistle until warm again. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

absolutely.... just turn the BIG screw that controls idle air and it makes the coolest whistle sound... otherwise, you have a gross vacuum leak somewhere...

FWIW, there were/are AFB carburetors from the early/mid 60s with the same air adjustment screws that could be adjusted to make a sound just like FI

Describe your procedure for performing a hot re-start. The problem you experience could just be a matter of technique.

Default C1 fi

When it’s hot I press down about 3/4 and crank about 5 seconds. I think the whistle has something to do with it. I’m using good racing fuel.

OK, you have a 62 unit; wasn't sure what might be on the car

just for grins and giggles, and no harm done....

see the BIG screw in the yellow circle: note the position of the screwdriver slot so that you can return it to its original position if necessary, and with the engine running, turn the screw in and/or out ONE turn to see if there is a difference in sound or how the engine runs

With racing gas, you shouldn't have much of a problem, if any. I would, however, go wide open throttle when cranking a hot engine. You say you crank for 5 seconds. What happens after that? Do you stop cranking or has the engine started by then?

Thanks you wmf62 for the pic and help. I’m out of town till may 5 but can’t wait to try it.

Jim Lockwood-Thanks for helping with this. sorry I wasn’t clear. Duh.It does NOT start. I wait 45 Sec and try again. And again no start. Do it again- no start. It doesn’t start unless I wait till it cools at 21/2 hours.

OK, thanks, that's more clear. Very strange problem. My fuelies hot-start instantly or at most after a couple of seconds of cranking and I run pump gas (or what passes for it here in CA).

Has your unit been retrofitted with an electric anti-siphon valve? If it doesn't have one and if the check valve internal to the FI is failing, you could get a flooding condition which would prevent a hot re-start.

If your unit does have the electric valve, then try this: Next time the unit doesn't hot start, take your foot OFF the accelerator and crank the starter. Your engine may just be telling you it needs fuel. Don't laugh; I've seen it happen.

Jim
