My '60 suddenly developed a buzzing/tinny sound at 2,000-2,500 RPM.
At low RPM I don't hear anything but that may be a result of my age and selective hearing. The noise is about the same frequency as my wife calling me.
Anyway, the noise seems to be originating in the engine compartment. When my wife runs the engine up to 2,500, the exhaust and fan noise are so loud, I cant hear the harmonic vibration.
I've pounded on anything in the engine compartment that could possibly be rubbing against anything with no luck.
Any ideas?
Check the splash shields on each side for looseness and then the exhaust system to see if it’s touchimg anywhere. Or, keep the car at 3,000 RPM or better.

Frank, I'll check the splash panels. That's a great idea. The noise begins at around 2,000 rpm and doesn't go away. When my Powerglide shifts from 1st to 2nd, the vibration disappears until it gets to 2,000 on up. BTW, at 3,000rpm, I'm going 60mph. That might explain why I'm only getting 9MPG.
