Default Frozen Speedometer

I have a '63 Vert with 65-67 gauges. Suddenly, my speedometer stopped working. I unscrewed the cable from the back to find the square drive had sheered at the cable. Easy fix to replace the cable but...I found that trying to twist the square end in the speedometer, the speedo itself was seized...ie not turning at all. Is this something that others have run across and if so, is there a fix once I pull the gauges? Not at all sure what could cause it to freeze up like that. I recently had the gauges out and the speedo seemed fine via external inspection.

I guess it could be the odometer gears broken or jamed. You now have an opportunity to have the whole cluster restored. Dennis
