Default operating headlights C2

I am restoring a 64 roadster.. I'm working on the headlights. How do they operate.. I wired everything in. To open the doors I push the button down, to lower I lift up. Is that backwards? Smooth operation, lucky me! How does the limiter switch work. Does it just light up a light on the gauge cluster or does it do something else? Where are all the indicator lights and how do they work. on, off, blinking, etc. The cluster looks like it was stored in a old barn for 50 years but I believe it will clean up.. I need to know where and what are all the indicator lights. I want to test everything before I make it look nice.

are those clips by the headlight motor necessary. looks like they would prevent the motor from sliding sideways if the bracket became loose. I could use c-clips if the hardware store doesn't carry the correct ones, should they be spaced with washers.

Pulling up on the switch should open the headlights, pushing down should close them.
There are no limit switches, only "telltale" switches that illuminate the light on the dash that says "lights" in red and it should flash after a while. It should come on only when headlights are on and EITHER bucket is not fully up. The telltale switch is normally closed providing a ground for that light when lights are on and then opening and removing the ground when both buckets are fully open, turning off the light. It has a special bulb that flashes after a slight warmup period, as does the parking brake warning in the other nearby rectangular opening.
Those switches don't stop anything, the motors will drive as long as you hold the switch in either position and they operate with or without ignition.

The only other indicator lights on the dash are the round center one for lights on bright, and the left and right turn signal lights. Those are all regular bulbs and not flashing bulbs.

I don't know what clips you are asking about in the other question.

The hairpin clips on the headlight bucket actuator shafts do indeed retain the motor in place.

it looks like there is approx 1/8" between the clip groove and motor block, should spacers be placed within that gap?

I did not install the clips yet but the motor seems tightly attached with the band bracket alone but I will install the clips after I paint the car and reinstall the doors.

First thing you should buy is an operators manual. About 10 bucks and you'll learn how things should work. You'll eventually need more in depth info, but start there.

One of the red ones is parking brake, one is "lights", the center round one is lights on bright, the other two are turn signals.
The one in the center for brights that I drew a green arrow to may be red or blue in reality. I don't remember, but the manual will tell you. The bulbs are all white, there is a colored film that they shine through for the red and green colors, and blue if that is what bright is.
