I am going to guess he all the traction control nannies turned off.
Those are really, really good at keeping you from doing stuff like that.

Looks like he stayed on the gas all the way to the wall or at least till he gets sideways. That or the brake lights didn't work until after he hit the wall.

Nope, you are correct. I noticed the same thing - looked like he had his foot in it all the way into hitting the wall.

I'm sure nobody feels worse about this than Mark Reuss - he's really a highly-qualified and experienced performance driver; just hit the loud pedal too hard and might have had the nannies turned off.

I agree he feels worse than anyone. With his experience as a performance driver and already driving pace cars for races, it is just that much more perplexing that this would happen to him.

Lack of respect for that 755HP under the go pedal.
Agree that traction control would have saved it.
And all in front of the GM brass in Detroit....
Link to better article with quotes from the driver: https://www.autoblog.com/2018/06/03/...r-ahead-of-in/

Let his airplane (or car in this case) get out in front of him.

Glad they were both okay. Wasn't trying to armchair quarterback but just state an observation. One of those deals that could happen to any of us if the planets line up just right.

My gut is none of the nannies were off, and when it crested that rise the chassis unloaded, taking all the down force off the car, putting him in a dire situation he may not have been ready for. I know for a fact the ZR1 will step out at 80mph if you stomp on it when you are in a straight line. If the same thing happened to him as the track crest unloaded the chassis, you are witnessing the result. When the back end steps out the last thing you want to do is stand on the brakes, the situation becomes unsolvable on the brakes for sure.

I think you're being kind there. The traction control can sense wheel slip in milliseconds and cut power/apply brakes to correct it.. I don't think it could have got that far gone with TC enabled.
How much downforce is happening on a parade lap?

From all accounts Reuss is a qualified driver that has paced more than a couple of races in Z06 Corvettes. He did release a classy statement. I'm sure nobody feels worse about it than him. Looks like he went over a slight rise in the road and came down with his foot heavy on the throttle and didn't back off it. Probably did have the nannies off.

If the nannies were disabled, GM could make lemonaid from lemons by coming out and saying that it would have prevented this accident if engaged... and maybe even prevent a few accidents down the road.
