Greetings: after owning a C5 for 15 years, it's now gone and I just bought a C2. There's no outside door window on the passenger side, nor do I see any in photos of C2's. So, is it considered completely improper to have one installed on that side - for safety purposes?
Also, it comes with a hardtop - any recommendations as to brand/type of garage hanger for it (I've read that it's not good to stand them up anywhere, as it may lose its shape a bit).
A lot of people add the passenger mirror, more coupes than 'vert's, do what makes you feel safe.
Welcome,
Tom M
Hi, to add to Tom's post, you should get a convex mirror to add to the passenger side mirror. Without it , the mirror will not be effective...just as modern cars have them.....you can buy a round one the same size as the corvette mirror and just stick it on.....to glass ....
Right Hand SIDE VIEW Mirror was a Dealer Install Option only.
RH mirror mounting position is the same as LH side View Mirror.
You should have no problem seeing cars in next lane over, mirror positioned correctly. They are not rear view, they are side view.
If I can see cars in next lane over with 2 1/2" Body Flared rear 1/4, you, just as I can on my stock body C2 should have no problem if installed correctly.
It can be disconcerting to not have a passenger side mirror, esp. if you're used to driving more modern cars that have them. They are a safety feature, for sure. However, when I drive my C2 I make sure to do a shoulder check every time I change lanes to the right. Just have to get used to it. You will.
Yes, these cars didn't come with a passenger side mirror from the factory. I must say there are very few I've seen that had one added afterwards. Yes, it does look a bit unusual to see one on a C2. But, it's your car, so do as you see fit.

Your safety comes 1st. So get a passenger side mirror if desired. Check out Zip's or Ecklers for that part.

I added one on my 66 and liked having it. It balances the car's appearance too. I used the stock left side mirror, mounted in exactly the same place on the passenger side. I had to tilt my head a tiny bit to see it past the side window but that becomes second nature.
... So, is it considered completely improper to have one installed on that side - for safety purposes?...
It won't cause the fabric of the universe to unravel. In fact, the '67 in the cover photo on one edition of the Vette Vues Fact Book has one. I think it was an edition with a Rally Red car on the cover, but it COULD have been the one with a Goodwood Green one.
How original is the car, and are you interested in having it judged on its originality? If that's of no concern to you, do whatever helps you enjoy the car.

As I have said before, if you really drive your car a lot , and with top up or in a coup, you need to be as safe as you are in a modern car. All modern cars have wide angle mirrors for a reason...
it is safer.....
My car has been all over the US and Europe and no one has said to me, your car shouldn't have the passenger mirror....
Guys , get over it....correctness is great , in your garage....but if you are truly going to go on the road...

After all, the passenger side mirror was a "Factory Option" in those days. Put the darn thing on. Better late than never.
Here’s my 2 cents and I have a 66 convertible with a hardtop. I bought this car 6 years ago and the lack of a passenger side mirror was a concern. Most of my driving time is with the top down. You can adjust the Center mirror so it favors the right side of the car and still see behind you. This really helps. You can still just turn your head to the right which always works. I also try to stay in the right lane as much as possible. Try driving the car for awhile and see if you can get use to not having the right side mirror. It worked for me, I wouldn’t consider installing one now.

I also forget to mention the loss of flexibility as we age....I could almost turn my head around when 21 and first bought the car...
I guess you younger drivers still can turn your head....lol....
I am just pointing out the fact the if you are old...like most of us..your can not turn your head as far right as when these cars were new..
Wide angle mirrors allow more flexibility in viewing...without it, your line of sight has to be perfect for the one moment the car is visible.
That is why modern cars have a wide angle mirror....to allow you to view a car coming up and along side of you in the blind spot.
I am not taking away from the few of you who have mastered the view angle without a wide angle ...I tried....believe me...
