I need to change the plugs in my 62 fulie and all I can get hold of tonight are " R43T" in stead of straight R43. Anyone know what the "T" stands for??
According to my Champion crossover, a R43T is crossed to a Champion RBL8 which is a tapered seat plug! This does not sound like what you should be using (should have the older straight cut seats with gaskets).
If you can, verify the above by looking at the seat of the AC R43T.
From the above info, I assume the "T" stands for Tapered seat.
Plasticman is correct. R= resistor, 43= heat range, this one is cold, T= taper seat, and if it had an S at the end = extended tip.
I use Autolite 85's in my 2 x 4 283, and they run very clean.
43s are WAAAAY too cold for the street. Even the OEM AC 44s are too cold. The best heat range to use on early small blocks regardless of horsepower is the AC 45, but AC no longer makes non-resistor plugs; NGK and Denso do. The equivalent non-resistor 3/8" reach, 13/16" hex with a gasketed seat is the NGK B4 or Denso W-14U.
I've been using AC 45 or equivalent since the mid sixties for normal street and highway driving. I used to use the AC 43 when hot lapping race tracks - SWC - 340 HP.
