I'll let you all know in 17 years. Vette has been in the shop the last three weeks. Hope to get it back soon. Jealous of all you retired guys.

Over the weekend I glued down the new dash pad. Due to varying thickness of the backing foam, it was as wavy as the ocean. Ended up tearing it off (the glue held really well) and ordering a new one from a different supplier yesterday. While I’m waiting on that, I wire brushed and cleaned the oil passages in the block and crank. Then started checking bearing clearances. All the mains looked good at .0025. Today I’ll check the rod bearings and ring gaps, then start assembling.

Retired on March 30. Made sure that my 65 coupe was all ready by that date. I've done 4 top installs (2 67's, 1 66, and a 61) plus a couple sets of seats. Plus, played a lot of golf.
Life it good. As many people have said "I don't know how I had time for work"

Made a bracket (fingers crossed) out of light weight steel (easier to bend and form, but not strong enough by itself) and then applied many layers of carbon fiber and epoxy for strength. Plan is to use this as an electric vent motor bracket. I will know tomorrow if this will do the job or not. Right now it has to cure...then off to the dentist for a crown.

Dont be jealous.....you are younger, probably still have your original knees, when you stand up your bladder doesnt tell you its time to pee, your back doesnt remind you every day that you were stupid for lifting all that heavy stuff years and years ago, driving at night is still easy....are you sure you want to be jealous? I would trade all my money for a younger persons body!

Only problem is then you have to go back to work. I didn't mind the going to work part, its the hanging around for 8 hrs. or so thats BS.

Sprayed 2 coats of Poly primer yesterday and spent today blocking it out. 70° with low humidity so I didn't sweat much during my 5 hour sanding session. Perfect weather for working on cars.

Took my 57 on a 240 mile journey across Kansas and into the Ozarks in Missouri in 95-100 degree heat. Car did better than me - I had a gallon water jug I went through, and other than dodging idiot drivers and sweating about 5 years off my life, all went well. Car purred along at 2800-3000+ rpm without a hiccup. Never even got over 180* in slower traffic Think I’ll keep her awhile .

Did something similar on the Power Tour, 104 in Oklahoma & Kansas. Had a cooler filled with ice next to me the only way I made it. Installed A/C in my 59 that following winter. Car did great.

My '61 would cruise effortlessly in Orlando summer heat with a rare excursion to the 190* mark at stop lights - one moving it went straight back to 185* -- you have a 'keeper' for sure....

Today I had my two buddies over that are specialists in their work and have agreed to help out as well as guide me on things. One is a metal fabricator who has a complete skill set to make or modify metal such as bumpers. We discussed some design ideas and I got the assignment to get things marked up like I want them along with some templates and get them over to him for modification and fabrication. My other buddy is the young man that painted my 60 vette 11 years ago. His paint and body skills have reached new levels since he painted my car previously. He also builds hot rods and previously built a 64 Impala and now is building a 61 Bubbletop. He gave me some things to do to get it at a point we can start body work but I have a ton of things to do.

Yesterday I worked on the electric vent windows for my '63swc. Tomorrow I have a slower motor but with more torque coming to try out and I need to closes up the tunnel where I had to make room for the T-56 6 speed to go in and clear. Lots of things to do....

I’d give my left one to find an ac source for my car. Can’t find anything ac related for a 57. I rode solo while wife and other family rode in chase vehicle. Actually enjoyed the solitude w/o co-pilot corrective comments!

Great pic. Cherish the moments. On my end, more poly and block sanding. Next round will be urethane primer and more block sanding. Those that have ever actually done this, feel my pain.

Retired the first time in 2010 at 53 after my wife passed (she was 40). Got remarried and went back to work. Retired again last year at 61. Now I miss the challenge. May have to do one more tour and then earn the retirement hat trick. I better make this one a good one!

Today I moved the 65 L79 vacuum advance source from ported to manifold. Idle increased to 1200, turned down to 800 rpm and drove around about 15 min, let it idle in 95 degree temp for about 15 min and no change in idle and temp below 180. Will know more after more driving.
