2023 C1 of the Year Finalist - Modified
Title worries.
This may be nothing but seems a little concerning at this point. I bought my 1960 NOM in March out of Michigan and titled it in Wa state. It has a reproduction VIN plate glued on the column and a frame so rusty I can not confirm a number on it. When I ran a nmvtis report on it Michigan shows up back to June 2014 then it shows my registration in Washington. Why does it not go back further? Is that a common occurrence? No record before 2014. I hope it doesn't matter, but it does seem strange. I am lifting the body in the next year so maybe I can sand/clean enough to get a trace of the number. Are there any other sources for VIN histories?

I’m not sure how far back they go. Mine showed the last two back to 08. Both for NY and none for the two states prior. Hopefully you will get an answer soon.

I'll bet the Michigan 2014 title was as a result of it being stored in somebodies barn for 20 or 30 years, then somebody 'rescued' it and titled it after many years of not being registered. It probably had gotten purged.from DMV's files. That's actually a lot of States policies. No telling how many junk cars populate their files

NMVTIS is relatively new - Google it if you care exactly. But it would not show stuff 20 or 30 years ago unless some state had info that old and fed it in. I think the focus is on current info, not past history through the years.
