Default Power Brake Question - 65 Coupe

I’m in the middle of a restoration and currently installing the brake system. When I purchased the car it had a stock style power brake booster installed but no proportional valve. Does the car need one?

The brake lines that I ordered specific for the car going to the master are a different fitting than the opening in the master cylinder.

wondering if I need the proportional valve or
just find an adapter fitting that will work.

Anything I find is telling me only the 67 had the proportional valve.

thanks!

The 1967 "proportioning valve" you mentioned is just a plain old pressure differential block to tell if the front or rear brake circuits failed. It is not a proportioning valve. You DO NOT require one on your 1965 car.......whether it has disc brakes (standard) or drum brakes (brake delete credit).

If your master cylinder is not a DELCO original unit, it may take different connections. NAPA and others sell conversion connectors/adapters.

1965 was a split year. At the beginning of production, cars with power brakes used 3/16". Later in the year, the master cylinder and lines were changed to 1/4". The 1/4" lines were also used on 66's with power brakes.

Which brake lines did you buy? It sounds like you may have gotten the wrong line set.

That's partially correct. Early production 65's used a main cyl with small outlets and 3/16" lines. Later 65 used a 66 style main cyl with larger outlets that required an adapter fittings for the small 3/16" lines.

66 was the beginning of 1/4" brake lines.
