Default Split Window numbers

I read somewhere on this forum about somebody having info on how many 63 split windows are registered, or on the road, or something like that to do with number of cars. I would like to find out as much info as I can about the 63 that I recently acquired from my father. Am I up in the night or does someone have info on these cars? Thanks

There were as many split windows made as nearly the entire production run of 1961 Corvettes -- the survival rate is the issue. Claims of ultra-rarity make me a little skeptical. There are three (besides mine) within 15 miles of me.....

They made over 11,000 of them and they have always been popular so how rare can they really be. I think you don't see to many of them because a lot of owners/collectors have more than one and don't drive them much.
Mark.

There are lots of myths about them. True, more than a few have been roached out and abandoned, raced into oblivion and modified enough to be unrecognizable. Then there are the stories of people "mudding in" the hood depressions and cutting out the rear split - even magazine articles on how to do it. I've heard mythical stores about hundreds of rear splits being sawed out and some body guys that specialized in just making the rear glass one piece. I'm skeptical - even if it was done a bit....what's 200 cars out of nearly 11,000.

Here is a white 340hp survivor that I met unexpectedly in a grocery store parking lot; another white fuelie going down the road about 3 miles from my house (wife took this pic)..

If you are interested in finding out as much info as you can about the ‘63 you acquired from your father, post some specifics about that car here in this thread... pictures, numbers, description, options, history, etc, and the members here can offer tons of insight on your car.

Info on 63s in general doesn’t really tell you much about your car, and is easily accessed.

Yep, there’s at least 3 other SWCs around my town including a red one that’s still owned by the original owner!

But every time I have mine out I hear how “rare” they are... they’re not. They are usually just tucked away.
