Default 283 engine mount

Hi Guys,

Going to have a rebuilt 283 engine installed in my 58. I've looked everywhere on the internet to find a schematic, diagram or photo's explaining or showing how the engine block is secured to the frame.

I have the frame mounts, crossover bracket with hardware and the rubber mounts/bolts and can find a detailed diagram of how to assemble the crossover bracket to the frame mount, but I cannot find a diagram that shows how or where the engine is bolted to the crossover bracket.

Can any of you send me a link to a schematic/photos/diagram (facing the front of engine without grille or radiator) that shows where the block meets with the frame mounts & crossover bracket and where the bolts are placed.

Sorry to be such a novice, but I want to know "the how to do it" before I turn my car over to an excellent mechanic that's not too knowledgeable on C1 Vette engine installations.

thanks for any help you can provide.

The brace is sandwiched between the block and the water pump. You will need to get two sets of seals. Plus should get the correct bolts for the generator mounting bracket. Also make sure you have the correct pulleys since it will through off the fan if it is not correct.

I'm not aware of any pulley difference but there is a spacer that goes behind the harmonic balancer that moves the damper out the amount that the engine mount moves the water pump forward.

Yeah, make sure to use the spacer.

yes, use the spacer... but, FWIW, I never used the spacer because 40 years ago I never knew there was one and never had a problem

You can just put a 3/16 spacer behind the balancer pulley and do the same thing.

I know there are a bazillion different pulleys. I was referring to a pulley with an offset specifically for
C1s.

Jim, thanks a lot for the picture. It explains very clearly where the crossover bracket goes relative to the engine block.

thanks again. Bruce

I wouldn't install a motor in a C1 without doing a similar mod. Obviously not for the NCRS crowd.

Since it is on a stand, mount all the pulleys, generator and check alignment of the belt. Easier to make any adjustments out of the car. I had to shim my generator with a thin washer to square it up on the manifold mount.
