Default Hood release cable

We all know the story of pulling the hood release handle, and the hood doesn't open. My issue was the next level up but I didn't know that until I made the tool you see in the pic. It's a coat hanger with a bent/loop end, and wood handle. My car was on a lose gravel driveway at our beach house so no floor jack etc. thus the Macgyver tool. I slid it through the firewall hole, caught the release lever and pulled...hood did not open! WTH! So then I had to use the Vette scissor jack on a board to get under the car. Looked up under and saw everything moving as it should. WTH! Then I pushed up on the hood it lifted and wife stick a rag covered tool into the opening. I then pulled up on the hood enough to see the cross cable had lost it retainer thing-a-magiger. Grabbed the end of the cable/wire and pulled, hood opened. Being far from normal resources I just bent the cable/wire end back over itself, all is good. New thing-a-magiger on order. The main point here is that, if your primary hood release cable disconnects you can resolve the issue with this homemade tool first and not need to get under the car. Dennis
