The A in the body sequence indicates the body was manufactured in the A. O. Smith plant it was painted with glass installed then shipped by rail to the St Louis assembly plant for finial assembly. the trim tag itself looks real, and not a fake. the car should be red with black leather seats.

Thanks Nowhere Man
I just went to a NCRS chapter Judging event and was disqualified for this trim tag .
I thought it was original when I bought the car and wasn’t told anything but it was a original car.
From what information I did read it looked Legit. But obviously not a expert.
Im looking for some input as where to go to Validate this tag maybe a second opinion or third.
The session was very informative all The judges were very nice and respectful and I did have a good time until the bomb was dropped. Any suggestions or direction would be appreciated thanks guys.

Its not an original, and is painted to try and hide that fact and mildly sanded to make it look aged. one of the first things I look for is the dropped Y in BY on the bottom row, then move on to other characteristics of original tags. attached is an original red AO Smith Tag.

I guess you learn things the hard way from time to time but it’s good to know . I thank you kindly for your input.

Here is the AO Smith trim tag from my '67 which I presume is authentic.

That's obviously a fake. On real tags, the right side of the letter "M" in Motors is in perfect alignment with the right side of the "H" in Michigan. On the OP's tag, they are offset. A clear indication of a fake tag.

I’m not sure how long this tag was run with the lower Y or when it started or what was GMs intent doing this ?
Was it intentional or a bad run of tags .. I don’t know but it is interesting.

There is a book by Roy Sinor and Al Grenning on how to identify correct and reproduction Trim Tags for C2 cars. Sold by NCRS. Cost is low. Everyone should have one. It provides all you want or need to know..............although the guys here have some additional comments that are not covered by this book.

Jim:
I will disagree regarding 1967 BB. But not many came from AOS. Just a few in the beginning.
About a year or so ago, Roy Sinor and others verified one of these cars.............by both up and close inspection and using NCRS data/records fro Chevrolet. A thread was even posted here on CF C2 Section.

Larry, I had heard that there may have been a very few 67 big blocks built at the beginning of the model year and that the hoods had to be repainted at St. Louis but didn't know if this was another wives tale like the big block hoods on small blocks cars. If Roy verified it to be true, that's good enough for me.

Here is the link to our CF thread. Even JohnZ agreed with Roy.

There should also be something around this time on NCRS Board (August 2015). I also believe I saw one for sale MANY years ago in Florida.........maybe even this same car. But I cannot remember all the details anymore. Getting too old.
Larry
PS (EDIT): Rereading the link I provided, it seems even Noland himself got into the discussion and agreed with Roy. A lot of Corvette knowledge in this link.

Another sign of a fake is the depth of the pop rivet shafts in the hole. They should be broke off fairly deep in the hole. A lot of them are broke off even. ( however this alone does not mean it is a a fake as it could have been re-installed )
But this fake has the shafts below the hole so they look correct.
