Default Real or repop

I've got a set of '57 hubcaps in good condition, but I don't know if they are real or re-pops. Along the inside edge I found Made B.L.C.-USA. I'd like to sell them since I know I will never use them but I don't want to present them as authentic if they are not.

If each has that rim edge stamp, then you have originals. I seem to recall that the stamp was at or near the valve stem hole. If you take the spinners off you should also find that same (casting not stamp) centered on the inside of the spinner. If both spinner and cap have the stamp and casting, then you have an original complete set.

Yep right behind the valve stem hole. All the spinners are stamped on the inside as well. Any ballpark idea as to value? I see a new set goes for $1K. Originals seem to be all over the place price wise.

Condition would certainly be a factor. The original ones also had a plating process that produced a bluish cast. If they have been abused and over polished or cleaned that finish generally goes away. If you were to compare an original to a reproduction you would see the difference in finish. As you said, the price is all over the place, but from the obvious condition you should be looking at something way less than $1,000. Check ebay to see what they are selling for, not what people are asking. If you are an NCRS member you can check the classified ads to see what they are selling for. The spinners are also well used and few vendor can rechrome them without loosing the detail. Good luck.

By the way, this model is also applicable to "56 and "58 model years as well as '57. In '59 they added slots around the outer rim.

That stamping is on the originals, not on repops.

Thanks everyone for the info. The hubs are pretty good, they have some spots on them that'll clean up fine. The spinners do have some pitting though.
