Thread: Don Stoltman Dies At 91 - Rochester Products Fuel Systems Engineer
saw this on the NCRS board
Donald Stoltman died on July 27, 2018 at age 91. Don Stoltman was a key engineer during the 1956 development of the Rochester Products Fuel Injection (Mechanical FI). Photos and mentions of his efforts at RPD are in various pages of Ken Kayser's "Volume III - The History Of Zora's " Ramjet" Fuel Injection.
Here is a quote is from his obituary in the Rochester, NY newspaper (called the Democrat and Chronicle).
"Donald Stoltman graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic and received his Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell. While working at General Motors, he received 78 patents, and invented the Rochester Quadrajet Carburetor. In 1985 he was awarded the Rochester Inventor of the Year."

RIP Don.
When you think back on how much these guys did without the assistance of computing technology we have today, you realize how smart they were. Back then you HAD to be a great technician to be a great engineer. The first small block was developed on paper with only coffee and unfiltered cigarettes to get the job done. Wit all the modeling and simulation tools today, still cannot improve on that same basic architecture and it endures in the LS engines that power millions of current vehicles (and are still a high-water-mark for performance and efficiency).
