Getting my chrome ready to be taken to the chrome shop this Friday. Doing everything but the bumpers and emblems. I want to see how this company does. I've seen some of their work and it looked really good. Will post pictures when I get it back!

Thanks,
Dex.

What is this? I found it in my pile of parts, I didn't disassemble the car.

Thanks,
Dex.

Ignition shield cover over distributor, but it is from a C3.

Thank you. Another part mixed into this pile that I don't need. Found just about everything but the lower molding on the inside of the windshield. It's probably here somewhere.

Thanks,
Dex.

If your doing a C2 Corvette Chrome job. It is much cheaper to purchase new the small parts then to have it rechromed. Only rechroming the bumpers is it cheaper then buying new. Emblems cannot be rechromed if they have paint with chrome on them.

When you say smaller parts, are saying it's cheaper to buy the windshield molding, handles, wipers, etc? I was actually planning on leaving the emblems as is.

Thanks,
Dex.

Handles yes, but not any trim. You want to have the trim redone, meaning dents removed and polished (stainless steel). Nothing fits like original. But some things like door handles or emblems are good with new.

I believe the window moldings are stainless steel and will only need to be polished. The small parts like handles, mirror, wipers, etc. are cheaper to purchase new then rechrome.

Thanks guys for the input. I want to keep as many original parts as I can, but I'll be reasonable about it.

Thanks,
Dex.

I'm in same boat, I heard the story about it's cheaper to buy (say door handles) new than have them rechromed. What about the story of new stuff has crappy chrome? So L'm opting for getting triple chrome on my original stuff instead of buying new and having to rechrome in three years. Why should I throw away original door handles?

Yeah, the wife and I talked and she wants to keep as many original parts as we can. Hopefully the rechrome and buffing won't be too bad.

Thanks,
Dex.

Dex, what is your ultimate goal for the car, will you want to have it judged? If so, repro. door handles in particular are easily identifiable from originals. So, in this case re-chrome would be the way to go. If you do decide to go the repro. route, put your original handles for sale on E-bay, you may be surprised at what they are worth.

Phil
Phil,

I don't plan to have it judged. I'm building it for my daughter who wants it for just driving it around. I just dropped the windshield molding, vent windows, and wipers off at the chrome shop. $1500 later and I'm at the mall. The bumpers and door handles will have to wait.

Thanks,
Dex.
