I've not seen photos of a painted big block hood stinger. (I know, it's not the real stinger, but it is raised.)

I painted the stinger, (or whatever it is called on a 66 BB car) black on my red 66, I personally don't like it because is looks a little phalic. I will see if blkblt will post some pictures so you can see. I am going to repaint this winter anyway so no harm no foul, but you should make your own decision if you like it or not.

Rich,
Still don't know what to call it (the 67 guys are a little touchy about their stinger :yesnod: ) Anyway, yours looks GREAT! You probably get lots of compliments.

Actually, some folks actually gave me grief about it being a different color :( , hence my vanity plate (see pic)

Looks OK by me.
And BTW, that hood breaths and is functional,
for those who never thought about it.
I found that out 1st hand when I 1st got my car and it would
puff white smoke out of its nostrils when it would sneeze through
the carb while trying to start.
Really weird looking. Like a dragon....
Quite embarrassing actually. But was an easy fix, and
is now just an odd memory......

RichF.....Nice!
We painted Milehigh66's stinger black a few weeks back just to see what it would look like..... He's had mixed reviews; I sort of like it. We did it because the CCC is getting ready to prep and paint the car in the near future anyway......so, an experiment was workable. :D
We Coloradoans kindly refer to it as "Kurt's Big Black Johnson"..........

The '66 BB hoods definitely have some function, Rat. Its nice to see that heat venting off through the grills on a hot day. :yesnod:
Interestingly, I have seen a number of '65 and '66 BB folks who seem to want to keep the rain shields on all the time...even in hot weather in a dry climate.....for some reason, I think some of them don't realize that the rain shields are removable.... :smash:
For years, I thought the '67 BB hoods were functional.....very stange that they are not.

I didnt even know they existed, till I saw them at a show a couple yrs back.
Very odd, if there on the car, folks dont know they come off, and if you dont have any, you say "What are rain shields"?

at speed air comes out the hood vents because of the air pressure built up under the hood coming in thru the rad. if you seal off the air filter to the hood vents you may see some benefits. :chevy

At Sebring 1966 the Penske Grand Sport had a cowl induction hood that looks like a cross between the 67 L 88 hood and 66 BB hood. As the engines changed the GS had many different hoods but that 66 Sebring hood is one of the best looking. IMO
