Default 1965 Ignition shielding

Is the ignition shielding over the distributor adjustable from side to side? I am asking because of a possible clearance issue where the throttle linkage passes through. The car is a 1965 L76 coupe. Thank you, Duke

Not adjustable, but you can get a little movement with bending the brackets slightly. You may create other issues. If you have the correct shielding and the correct linkage there should not be an issue, it's a big square hole.

These brackets get bent all the time. Bend to fit.

My swivel is mounted exactly as the one pictured in the red circle. The AIM manual as well as some past posters state that it should mount from the inside out which looks like it might hang up on the shielding. I wanted to try this because I have a slight binding in the linkage and thought this might provide better alignment. Hope I didn’t thoroughly confuse everybody. Thanks again for your responses, Duke

The incorrect dizzy shielding that was on my '65 L76 when I bought it was bent outwards on both sides of the accelerator slot to make clearance. I have since acquired the correct shield for it. Are you confident that yours is correct? That, as well as the accelerator linkage - that was also incorrect on mine.

The linkage looks correct (looks exactly like all the vendors ,might be original) and so does the shielding. The clearance is fine the way it is not so sure if I reverse. The throttle rod in the photo looks to have a bend in it which I don’t think is correct. I thank you very much for your time and opinion, Duke

Why not post a pic of your setup (like Jack did). Ya know what they say, a picture is worth a word or two.

Shouldn’t the throttle arm have a bend to it

Because it is in a photo doesn’t make it correct. I think this question was answered by the first few responders. The shielding wasn’t meant to be adjusted and can only be accomplished by bending. While I sincerely appreciate the information that is provided by the knowledgeable members of this forum I think that the topic of the original question sometimes goes asunder into area’s not dealing with the original question. I think I now have the answer to my original question and thank all who provided it, Duke

I think the bend in the rod started with drop base air cleaners. A straight rod won't clear a drop base on some cars.

The 65 327 accelerator rod has no bend, 66 327 has a slight bend.

The rod on my '64 is straight. I use the lowest factory Corvette drop-base and there is no interference with a Holley 600 dp on a Performer RPM manifold with a 1/2" spacer.

BTW, contrary to what's been posted, the ignition shielding is adjustable without bending to an extent.

If you loosen the intake bolts that hold the supports, the supports can be "swiveled" back and forth a bit allowing movement of the shield back and forth, and at a bit of an angle. The bottom of these supports have tabs to engage pockets in the stock manifold. Different manifolds (with no tab pockets) will require that the tabs be belt back a bit.

Then there is also the vertical adjustment. If you cinch the two bottom wing nuts lower in their slots, you can make the shield sit just a bit higher. This pulls up the support on the driver's side wing nut area just a bit.

Granted, these movements are minor but can make a difference in the final position of things.
