Overnight parking at events
So we are taking R66 to the Corvette FunFest and staying overnight.
I have the security devices: hood lock, battery cut off switch, ignition kill switch, steering wheel lock, 9 mm pistol and two clips, fuel shut off, etc.
As it is a convertible, I have always left the doors unlocked as it is generally cheaper to replace the contents rather than to replace the top. I am thinking I have to review my insurance policy to see if this is the way to go. As we have $0 deductible, I want to do it their way.
So when you stay overnight at a motel, do you:
Put the car cover on or leave it off? R66 is not a real Corvette (only a base model) and is a driver quality car. I am thinking I should park amongst the real Corvettes, and leave the car cover off, and thus any would be thief will laugh and spend their time getting the real Corvettes.
Of course, if I put the car cover on, I can put alarms on it to get a little quicker jump with the 9 mm.
Park in view of your room and have a flashlight / spot light to shine upon the car if you are lucky enough to awaken at the right time.
Any other precautions you would take? Remove the hub caps?????
Thanks
Ron

I’ve been in combat a few times in over 23 years and carry concealed as well. Shooting people isn’t easy or funny.
Naive (and stupid) is bragging on the internet about shooting someone over a car.
If you’re that worried about your Chevy, stay home and complain about Millenials on the Internet.
Oh, and to top it off, advocating shooting someone over a car isn’t doing responsible firearm owners and the 2nd Amendment any favors. Anti-gunners have a field day when people say stupid **** like that.
But I’m naive, so what do I know?
Have a great day!

Try to stay at hotels that will let you park right up front under the covered awning.
At one fine establishment, I was so worried about my car that I took off one of the tires and rolled it into the room.

If there is a group staying at the hotel, you could pool some money together and hire an off duty police officer from say 10p-6a or midnight to 5a. Times could vary due to what time they have shift change. Different agencies will vary in their off duty job rate. I have found the longer the hours the cheaper the rate.

Pay your insurance and park it. It’s a - what- $30/40/50k Chevy?
I’m not trying to be flippant it’s just not that rare and desirable except to joyride. A late model Denali, Tundra or Audi costs more and is more likely to be stolen.

I make sure I get a nice hotel where I can park the car in front of my room and then just put on a heavy duty wheel clamp, cut off the battery and lock the doors and I feel like that's enough. Apart from that we have less car theft over here than in the US, and most of the times I stay at a show the parking lot is cramped with other corvettes.

My best resource when traveling cross country in one of the cars, is the Inn Keeper. Let the Owner of the hotel know you are worried about your vintage Corvette. They will alert the staff and keep an eye on your car. Someone will be around at night to keep an eye on things. Get a good night sleep and enjoy yourself.

The pros that are looking to steal classic cars target these shows where they have a lot to choose from and opportunity.
I think the best thing to do is stay further away from the event then most people. Likely the hotel rate will be less than the area that the event is at and the thieves will be targeting. Just get up a little earlier to make the drive.
I just drove my cars 8500 miles in 3 1/2 weeks staying in a different motel every night and had no problems. I had an electric fuel pump shut off but never had to top up on the car the entire time, just a **** pit cover on the car and always parked as close to my window as possible. We generally did not get into a hotel until after dark.

Stay at a bed and breakfast that will let you park your car in the garage.
Still take the coil wire and maybe the owner can block the garage with his/her car.
Yes this is getting ridiculous. These events are suppose to be fun. Now not only are they expensive they're stressful.

Safety Car
This is what I did the last time I stayed at a motel. Ive had a few stolen. I hate car thieves. I have switches but I said they might haul it off but they ain't driving it away. Last year I was at a show. A guy there had a 61 fuelie 35000 mile car. Absolutely mint original condition. He had it parked on the main road right out front the whole time. I couldn't have slept with it out like that. 30,40,50k really. Not to mention 3 plus years of work.

If worrying will ruin your trip, then park the car in safe spot. Safe spots you ask? Banks, hospitals, local FBO, reserve/guard base, the list goes on. Then just Uber to the hotel.
