Hello Fellow Enthusiasts; Recently purchased a 1964 Corvette Coupe in very original condition and original parts.
Engine stamping is F0511RD.....Flint May 11th 300 horsepower engine.
I need to purchase the correct date coded alternator.
What is the NCRS acceptable date code the alternator can be.....meaning..."How Close" to May 11th can the alternator be date coded to be accepted as "Correct"?!...Thanks!!!....Mark

Although NCRS accepts component dating up to six months prior to car assembly date, it shouldn't be too hard for you to find the alternator with a March or April date code. With a May assembled car, this would date your alternator as a C or D. My June 11th assembled '64 has an 4E14 date code that translate into a May 14, 1964, roughly a month before car assembly. One additional comment, mine is a power glide and I know this alternator is the original. I have found on my very original car that the dates are pretty tight and almost all of my components have a May date. I suspect that the inventory on automatics may have been a little tighter because there were only about 2,400 made and their needs for these items were less. I have no proof, but I seem to get agreement on this point from most. Good luck and congrats again on your new purchase.

Congrats. on your new purchase. My first Corvette was a 64 coupe back in 1973, white with black interior. My 65 coupe built April 10th has a March 8th ( 5 C 8 ) alt. and my 65 conv. built May 5th has a April 22nd (5 D 22 ) alt. Both are their "born with" alternators. Hope this helps.
