Phil:

No pics.......sorry about that. I am sure others will have. But I can offer:

1. Factory stock had a STV valve and not a POA.

2. Heater hoses at/near front of compressor used a special bracket to hold them in position and to prevent kinking as the came off the engine and turned to the rear.

3. Heater shutoff valve is on the inlet to the heater core and uses a special holding bracket attached to the firewall. Hose between valve and heater connection was very short and determined by the bracket position. Water valve vacuum connection for factory valve pointed straight down. If you follow these instructions there is no room for misinterpretation or incorrect installation of this valve.

I'll get some pictures for you, but should mention that in 1965 it was not a POA (pilot operated absolute) valve, but rather an STV (suction throttling valve). Differences are minor, but if you're going for originality it's significant.

When rebuilding my system I found the AIM to be invaluable. Everything you need to know is in there; locating and deciphering the information will take some time, but it's definitely worthwhile.

Thanks to everyone who sent pics and advice.

What I discovered is that my '65 has a '67 condenser and the hose/tube routing is fragmented from the condenser to the '65 pieces.

I couldn't figure out what was going on because some of my parts match the assembly manual and some don't.

Anyway I finally figured it out and have the correct items on order.

Thank you,

Phil

That was just a pic i grabbed off the web somewhere. These guys will do it:

https://originalair.com/gm-stv-rebui...l-spring-style

But I did my own

edit: the 65 shop manual supplement has the step-by-step procedure for a rebuild; probably a 2 out of 5 star DIY level of difficulty if your valve isn't badly corroded.

You must have noticed that the '67 system hangs the receiver/dryer in front of the condenser, while the '65 has it on a bracket behind the PS of the rad support. Not sure how the '67 condenser can be plumbed so the drier is located where it belongs on a '65.

Default STV and Condenser Fitting

Thanks again for the detailed pics

I am now working on the condenser/dryer fitting issue - see pic with 67 condenser

Question - The Condenser fitting is resting on the rad support - is the condenser mounted too high? Is it the wrong rad support?

See the hole below the fitting, there is another below it - this is for the fitting from the dryer to the Evap. I can move it down one hole and it will still work to the dryer.

I ordered the condenser fitting for the 66L-67 and hope that it will fit in the top hole.

STV issue resolved -see before pic

Here are a few photos of my A/C condenser, receiver dryer and heater hose retainer that you may find useful.

Is this the "before" pic?? Because the STV needs to be rotated 90 degrees CCW from the looks of things, and the mounting of the hot water valve doesn't seem right either. Better get that sorted before even starting to put the A/C components together.

Yes the pic with the fitting next to the manifold is the before - it looks more like your pic now see attached pic below.

I am still dry fitting the hoses

I still need to get a STV bracket to secure it - (let me know if you have one) and resolve the condenser fitting issue.

Thanks again for the pics

Phil
