Everyone thinks our backyard builds with nice non-standard paint and aftermarket wheels are worth $200-$300K.

I was amazed at the prices. I get the workmanship that went into some of those builds, but damn. $200-300K is rare car money.

You're right about that. I had a guy in a brand new Z06 tell me that he'd happily trade cars with me, since mine was worth so much more than his. I laughed and explained that my NOM driver is worth less than half of what he paid for the Z06.

Not everyone Doug. Just the guys with the derelict hulks sitting under tarps covered with push mowers, bathtubs and weeds that keep telling prospective buyers, nope I ain’t selling. I’m gonna fix it up some day.

I haven't read the results for yesterday, but was surprised how many C-1 and C-2 restos sold on Friday for less $$$ than I was quoted to do mine and that didn't include the cost of my car. Not sure what happened yesterday, maybe more $200-300K restos, which truly blows me away.

I know of several C1/C2 Corvettes in my area and get that same answer. Then the owner dies and the family can't wait to cash the car in!!!
There is a guy two blocks away from where I work has a 1959 Corvette Red/Red 245HP fuel injection power windows vin#005 he has it since late 1960. The car needs a full restoration but is all there? He will never drive it again or restore it and when you ask if he would sell it the same answer NO WAY!!!

That price "variances" has been discussed here. I am not going to repeat my self. I will say though that having an announcer say: "It can take thousands of hours to paint a car like that", doesn't help drive the price of restoration/restomod build bills down. Notice I said "bills", not costs.

I do suppose if you start the clock ticking on Jan 1,when the car comes into the shop, and stop it Dec 31st when it rolls out, i guess it did take 2080 hours to paint the car.

The cruise night Know-It-All calling every C2 a split window will now be calling every C2 a RestoMod.

I would have told him that AFTER we traded.

According to at least one restomod builder that was there, many of those cars were bought back by their owners.....bid prices were too low to cover their costs. The cost to build one must be astronomical.

I just watched a 57 Restorod go for $300,000; a 63 split restored go for $350,000; and a 67 Blue coupe 427 tri-power hit $155,000 and a green 67 vert 427/390 barely got to $95k.

When the supply of basket case C1s and C2s starts to get tight they will probably start looking at nice originals, drivers and even restored cars for donors. Wild.

I remember reading here that some nicely restored cars have been used already. Guess it depends on how solid of a car an owner wants to start with.

Owners aren't allowed to bid on their own cars, but that doesn't mean a friend can't.
