As you know I am having my car painted. The left door was replaced with a 62 by PO.
I purchased a 61 door and installed it.
With the paint removed I see where the car was hit and repaired. Now the back is OK but the front of the door is too far in. The black line shows how far in the door is.
I am trying to find a recent thread which talked about shims in the front of the hinge. I feel that would move the door out.
Any other ideas.
Thanks,
Joe
Go up in the door hinge pocket. You will find 2 9/16 headed bolts. These are the bolts for adjusting both up and down as well as in and out. They go into nut plates in the hinge pillars. When they are loose you can move the actual hinge around to reposition the door.
The 9/16 headed bolts are 5/16 fine thread. They go into an uncaptured nut plate behind the hinge pillar. The holes the bolts go through are approximately 3/4" diameter. If you needed a little more movement to align the door you could slot those holes. Hopefully you won't need to.

Must be "specials" or Bubba replacements - bolts with a 9/16" hex head have 3/8" threads.
These are the way Chevrolet turned them out I'm fairly certain. I'm aware of what standard sizes are but the bolts in the pocket as well as the ones holding the door to the hinge are 5/16-24 with 9/16 heads. I'm guessing to have more head to load the over size hole they are used in.
I just got a call from the body guy this morning and he added the shim and got the door to conform to the body.
He is very happy with the fit.
I think he went the extra mile when I told him I had a six pack of beer from my son's brewery for him!
I will go down later this week and check it out.
Thanks for all the replies.
