Frankie, That is a really nice looking Thunderbird. It seems Ford is and has been on top of it’s retro-designs. From the GT to the Mustang (let’s not forget the Raptor, though not retro) they don’t seem to be shy about pushing the envelope.

Remember when thte 58 Corvette was a laughing stock, garish grill and trunk, washboard hoot, etc ?
We'll see I guess. Confession time (I like the Chrysler Crossfire too)...
Without a doubt, the T-bird is a polarizing design.....you like it or you really, really don't like it.

A Thunderbird wouldn’t be my choice for a car but the ladies have different tastes in cars than us guys. So, good on you, Frankie, for getting Mrs. Fink a car she likes.
Before Mrs. RatDog got her Corvette, she drove a Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo Spyder. Not a car I would have chosen for myself but she loved that car. Like Mrs. Fink, whatever she owns HAS to be a convertible. Her only other requirement is that it has to be stick shift.

We looked and sat in some C5/C6 cars and they are lower to the ground and harder to get in/out of than my 61 or 63 Corvette and neither of our knees is holding up well. A C7 ? I feel the same way about that as some of the negative comments on the T-bird. Doesn't appeal to me and they are becoming too prolific - I see them all over now and don't give 'em a second look... Sleek and fast, but when you see the real estate salesladies driving them to Starbuck's I'm out...

Maybe you can borrow it some evening from the wife and find a Suzzanne Sommers look alike from the 60s and shoot a modern re-creation photo from American Graffiti.

As I was reading I thought it was gonna be a 55 to 57 T-Bird. Then I scrolled down.
Good luck with it. (dark-side yes)

I think the rear end styling looks pretty good. The front end looks like a caricature of the originals......

Now you can ride and be safer and not have to concern yourself with anything like we have to with the Classics .
Great choice for her ,
I ask my wife if she wanted and she wanted a 740IL so I bought one for her lasted 2 years .
It broke left it with the mechanic for 500 dollars and didn't look back .
Your Lucky what if she wanted a old Ferrari

Congrats for making the hottest thread on the forum today.
The one design feature missing on the retro-T-bird were the fins over the tail lights. Those small fins were part of the Fairlane and T-bird mid-50's Ford design theme. Seems like there'd be a market for "stick-on" retro fins to go above the jet exhaust tail lights.
I've found satisfying my wife's long term vehicle desires is excellent conditioning for my purchasing of a new ride. You eyeing something? Cheers

I went to the dark side at Barrett this year, so there’s a lot of that going around. Right Doug?

It isn't really about the money but at any rate, no way I can get hurt on this car....it is literally factory fresh in all aspects. Got it for $5K-$6K below what versions with double the mileage bring.
Needs the sound system modernized and a few bubbles int the convertible rear window tint (glass BTW) removed from aging....I'll take care of all of that this week and the wife is already planning a road trip up to a bed and breakfast in St. Augustine...
I'll be slunk down in the passenger seat riding shotgun wearing this:

But, I’m wondering with all of your Mustang background why the Mrs. didn’t want a newer Mustang convertible.
Could it be that she was looking for a car that you wouldn’t always be taking apart?
Sorry, I just couldn’t resist that poke. You know I’m joking.

It's always been my understanding that the last year for a Thunderbird was 1957?
But, with that said, I do own one Ford----------------------------and it's built Ford tough with Chevy stuff!

Tough room!
I actually like those T-birds.
I will take some of the pressure off Frank, here is what I bought my wife last week to keep her happy. 2005 LJ Rubicon, 6-speed, 38K mile dry-climate Survivor. If you are a Jeep fan, you'll know why this is basically a unicorn. If you are not a Jeep fan, you might hate it more than the Thunderbird.

When i saw that last picture my first thought was you rolled it already? I have seen several Jeeps in that position over the years out in the boonies.

I'd rather have the T bird than a C5-C6 'Big Butt' Corvette. I can't stand the C5-C6 cars, personally. Conversely, when the retro-bird came out in 02 or 03, I liked it. Very clean design, understated, and not in your face. The one that I think is FUGLY is that abomination Chevy SSR pickup/roadster/thing. Expensive, ugly, heavy as hell, gas hog, impractical, and IMO, useless.
I think shes shopping again, though.
