I have a 65 coupe 327ci 4 speed with a damaged speedometer cable. The cable attaches to the passenger side of the tranny and was routed under the bellhousing and then up by the clutch linkage and through the firewall. Is this the correct routing or should it go over the bellhousing? The previous owner had it disconnected under the dash and when I went to connect it I found the cable was crushed. It must had bottomed out at one time. I just don't want to route it wrong and have it damaged again. Thanks for any advice you can offer.
Steve
Thank you 2009stanger; It looks like it comes over the transmission and then up to the cowl. My assembly manual doesn't show the tranny, just a cable coming by the clutch linkage. This is a great help.

Hmm...that diagram shows the speedo cable entering the tranny on the driver side which is the same as my ‘64 coupe. What transmission has the cable entering on the passenger side?

Only the 3 speed and Powerglide had the speedo cable on the drivers side in 1965. The 4 speed had it on the pass. side. The A.I.M. clearly shows the proper routing.
On my 65 4-speed it enters the engine compartment through the hole shown in stanger's diagram and goes up and over the bell housing to the passenger side of the transmission like snake's diagram. I assumed it was factory routing since the grommet (3824713) was there instead of the plug (4699137). I like the way mine is routed, seems less of a bend than entering the engine compartment up by the washer motor. There are a couple of other items where I'd take a hit at judging too so I think I'll just leave it
I think maybe there are only two things in my engine compartment that are correct, the upper radiator hose (reproduction though) and the washer tank.

'65 has speedo cable from driver's side on the 4 speed. Check your extension tailhousing number. The list below is from Paul Cangialosi book Muncie 4-Speed.

Correct for Corvette as far as I know. Didn't hold true on some pass car models.
My '65 Chevy II had a driver's side speedo 4 speed transmission in it and it had a cable retaining clip fastened to hold the cable on that side.
It also had another, unused cable retaining clip on the underbody. Later, when I changed to a '66 model transmission with the passenger side speedo, that unused clip worked perfectly to hold the same cable in the new position.
My car was built mid-December '64. Maybe GM picked 1-2 carlines to exhaust all the left hand speedo transmissions rather than trying to co-ordinate a balance out on all car lines?

My '65, Nov. 64 built has the retaining clips on both sides of the tunnel. Maybe it's like Snake said it depends on the original transmission option which cable route is used.

Don't know if you're talking about Chevy II or Corvette but my Chevy II had both clips. If I'm not mistaken, my '65 three speed Corvette has two clips on the tunnel. One used and one not. I think it's serial number is around 12-13K.

My 65 Corvette has two clips. My serial # is 01566.
There was a change during the 1965 model year to passenger side of housing.
I was looking through my book Corvette by the numbers by Allan Colvin and it says two extension housings for 1965. Speedo on driver's side until Feb-65. 1965 Corvette muncie transmisson

Incorrect. All '65 4-speeds used the 584 extension housing with the speedo driven gear output on the passenger side.
