Coulda Been?
OK, Maybe I had a little too much coffee tonight and a bit more time on my hands than I should have, ...... so, purists, suck it up. This one is just for fun.
I got to thinking what if Chevrolet had kept the C2 body one more year until the federally mandated side marker lights were incorporated in all their platforms, do you think they would have used the style of marker they introduced on the 1968 Corvette or perhaps have designed something completely different?
I know the body doesn't really lend itself to this, but I have Photo-shopped this '67 to add '68 side marker lights for those with no imagination so you can get an idea what it may have looked like.
I'm going for another coffee.....

Ya just can't mess with a midyear body without losing something.

Euro export mid-year cars got side marker lights. Here is a Swiss export 65. I like these better than your idea.

A few of the late 60's GM cars had some pretty interesting side marker lamps unlike the '68-up Corvette lamps. Look at the 1968-69 GTO, the 1970 Chevelle and even the 1970 Impala had some pretty nifty cut-outs in the front bumper corners. The least intrusive lamps would be the little round ones like you would find on a 1968 Dodge Charger or Dart.

C1 of Year Finalist (performance mods) 2019
If they would have continued the body style into 1968 they would have had flare fenders to accommodate the larger tires available which is the only non factor modification that could improve the looks of a C2 and I believe would have been a welcome addition and would then make the 68 the most coveted of all C2s. The C2s are made for flares in my opinion.

Funny how my '65 GTO has wrap-around tail lights with only one bulb per unit that can be seen clearly from the side. The '66 and '67 cars used many more bulbs per unit and shrouded the lights so that they were NOT visible from the side at ALL. In '68, the side marker lights came in, in the shape of the Pontiac 'Arrow' emblem. and even the 'Firebird' shape on 'birds. Great idea, not a fan of the aesthetics. Kind of like air bag steering wheels....great to have, but ugly as all hell. And as graceful as an elephant's ankle.

IMO;
The '68 side marker lights were ugly slap-ons with little style in almost every example. I think that the 1968 Cougar was among the worst, with the overly large horizontal lozenge-shaped lights.

Somebody needs to photoshop a 70's- era 5 mph bumper on the front and back of a C2!

I wasn't aware the Euro export cars needed to have the marker lights installed.
