The WJ1882 is not the VIN number of the car it came out of.
That is the application stamp as follows:
W = Warner Gear Division
J = Assembly Month (September)
18 = Assembly day (18th)
8 = Assembly Year (1978)
2 = Production Shift (2)
Look for a stamp something like 18N100005, which would break down as
1 = Chevrolet
8 = 1978
N = Production Plant
100005 = production number sequence
