Default Wind split/ upper fender support question

I ordered and received the correct upper fender support for my 1960, but I was wanting the earlier metal support not the later fiberglass support that I received. How much of a difference is there? Should I hold up work until I get the metal one?

Hard to say - I know some (one ?) person here bonded the glass supports under the fender which makes them more or less permanent and then I wonder if they are as rigid as the steel versions. I ran the steel in my 61 and liked the fact they were removable and stiffened the fender up nicely..

I'd go for the steel - and I wouldn't hold up any work waiting on them. I installed mine easily on a completely finished car...

You are right! I'll order the steel supports and keep work progress in forward motion. Why didn't I think of that.

Wind splits went on fairly easy with out too much issue, but boy did I get an education on patience, and file a little here grind a little there bend a little here, push, shove tighten, loosen, start over, with installing the stainless trim on the door. Looks great now and should be less stressful on the other door. Tomorrow, upper and lower fender trim fit time, already know I have challenges to get this done, see what happens.

I assume you know to put dum-dum on the two rearmost windsplit studs that intrude into the cockpit along with some on the studs that hold the side cove spears in place. Unless you like a foot bath when driving in the rain...

You're lucky if you have newer repro cove moldings - the old repros were just awful. The PS especially - the curve over the front wheel arch wasn't even close... When I installed the newer Corvette Central PS molding on I was nearly giddy at how well it fit....they've reworked the design I'm told.

We did PS first and it was a nasty long project, however it was first time ever to do this job for me. DS went so much better, maybe cause it wasn't my fist dance, or maybe I had the PS side flaw that you speak of. All in all I"M happier than a pig in ****. I'm not happy that they shorted me two "T" bolts, but car looks great, that SS really sets it off. As a note I purchased this stuff 1-2 years ago.
