63 convert--just couldn't leave things alone
Hello All,
I bought my 63 with great help an advice from this form a few months ago. The negatives (in my mind) was the 70's mods and a few bubbles in the paint. The positives was the 27k price tag and every nut and bolt had been replaces approx 10-15 years ago. The replacement block I didn't care about because I want to drive this as much as possible and judging this car will never happen at a car show. The majority said drive and enjoy for that price, but I just could not get over the ampha-car front end look and bubbles in paint. I drove it for a month and started to put the car (or take it apart) to get it ready for my enjoyment this summer. Body off resto not in my budget or mindset. So my journey begins: I took off all that I could with a little frustration. Who knew I had to take out windows to remove window felt? Out came gauges to have redone and decided to make interior tan, so dash came out also. (Originally Daytona blue/tan interior) The hooker side pipes came off (except headers at this point, will come off soon) Factory looking side pipes will replace them. Headlights and markers are back in front end and third tail light has been removed--even though that didn't look to bad. Stinger hood will stay because I just love them. Torque Thrusts sold and looking for new wheels. Paint goes on today and the process off putting it back together begins.
Ampha car front now gone
Hooker pipes gone --have factory looking replacements
Interior was nice but had to fix needle on gauges so out came the gauges
Three lights---now two
Out came gauges then the bright idea of going to tan interior
no more dash--not to bad of an experience..I own a 68 so this was much easier
piller no rust thank god
I finally found some Daytona blue!!
Bye-Bye pipes
Headlights once again
sold tt wheels had to steel 68 rallys to make it roll--68 is on jack stands. lol
two tailights once again

Nice car, good buying @ $27k - Rallye Wheels seem to suit as does the Stinger Hood, - NOM gives you a BB option 396/425 - Regards GV

Amazing progress! You've come a long way. Please don't take this as being critical, but you may want to verify your passenger door fitment before getting further into paint. It just may be the angle of the picture or the door being incompletely latched but it looks like the rear of the passenger door is 3/16" or so low with a tight top gap. May be repairable with hinge alignment and/or body shimming. MUCH easier than after paint!
Well done!

I ordered BA9S Cool White 120 degree 12V bulbs from Superbrightleds.com. They are located in St. Louis. Don't forget to grease the pivot points on the wiper transmission. Jerry

I used the BA9 Warm White LEDs from the same source, I did all the gray wire dash lights and it takes 10 bulbs, 1 for the radio, 2 for the clock and 7 for the dash gauge lights. I left the warning/turn signal/high beam/lights alone... These LEDs brightent thngs up without being glaring or harsh.

Thanks for the advice on bulbs and pivot points. Any other “while the dash is our advice”. I really don’t want to do this twice. I will probably install a vintage air kit while I am at it. Air in 66 gto convertible is almost useless but maybe in the smaller corvette it will work a little better . Summer in my area is triple digits. I want to drive this all the time. Any thoughts on the dynomat and the Dyno liner heat mat? Good to put under dash?

Great job on the headlight conversion. Good luck going forward.
I hope you finish faster than you planned and come in under budget.

I haven't noticed anyone suggesting you put in a new dash wiring harness, but the would be easy to do at this stage (if the interior is still apart).

Yea headlights back in!!
Great looking hardtop that will probably never see the car!
Quick update. They said they have to polish and I think sand, but should be done Monday. Not great pics but according to manager it looks great and everybody involved loved the color. We will see. It is still raining in Northern Calif (Chico) so maybe it will get done when "Spring" comes!!

Looking good. Will be watching how you do the mat as mine should be back from the painter in a month or two.
