Rpo 578 & 579
If there was some rhyme or reason behind the selection of the RPO (regular production options) numbering system I have to believe the the full size chevrolet in 1957 was destined from the git-go to have fuel injection. Although FI first appeared in Corvettes with the RPO 579 numbering this was sometime before their full size brethren did in maybe March of 1957 with the RP0 578 number. I find it interesting that numerically the full size car's RPO number is before the Corvette's. Maybe the General kept the higher numeric number for the flag ship car.
At some later year I believe the FI engine became RPO L84, does anyone know what year that was?

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much to try to explain here. If you get a copy of Ken Kayser's book, Vol III, it will all be thoroughly explained.
