Default 1962 tach problem

The tach is not working in my 1962 corvette. The tach was removed and checked out ok. A new distributor and a new cable have been installed. The cable was also reversed in the housing. Both ends of the cable turn fine but when everything is hooked up, the tach still doesn’t work. At this point I am at a loss as to my next step.

Had the same problem a few years ago. The inner cable end "looked" OK, but was not square enough to actually engage the gear drive unit in the distributor.

But you have a new cable.

Did the tach work before?

You might want to check the condition of the tach drive gear in the distributor.Disconnect the cable from the distributor and with a wide blade screwdriver unscrew the coupling.. If the gear is stripped you should remove the distributor and check the mainshaft gear .and to see if the tach drive gear is digging into the housing.. If so youll need to install a nylon bushing into the housing to align the mainshaft gear with the tach drive gear.. Depending on condition the mainshaft and tach drive gear may need replacing. .

Rereading your post you have a new distributor. so my suggestion might N/A
