Default Source for 6 x 15 stock steel wheels

Thinking of staying with stock hubcaps on 15" wheels, but would like to go to a wider wheel and tire combo. Only ones I've found are about half the price of a mag wheel or even more.

I'm away from the car for the next week, so I can't just go out and look in the garage, but do I need "nub" wheels or will other Chevrolet "nubless" wheels work with the stock 62 hubcap? I would like to run 215 or even 225 wide tires on these wheels.

Some have welded nubs on non-stock wheels but tire width has to be checked for fender clearance.

I did this on my 57 but I had original nub wheels to use as a guide for placement and size. We had to grind and “massage” quite a bit to get them to fit properly.

I am running 5.5x15 wheels with hubcaps as opposed full wheel covers. Running 215 Diamondbacks. ST12 says even that 215 (710) are a fit On wide wheels and I can agree. Don’t know about 6x15 but as long as offset is good, should be ok.

I'm going to check out the BS to make sure there are no issues, but if a 7 x 15 mag wheel will fit with 4.25-4.50 BS (as others on this forum are running) I assume the 6 x 15 would be an even easier fit. But, it all depends on the BS.

Don't the stock spinner hubcaps hold on to the outer rim of wheel, if so, the nubs would be only needed for dog dish hubcaps or if the car is being judged.....is that correct?

I have 225/70X 15” on 6” wheels front and back with stock backspacing and no issues.

Two different sets of nubs. You need them on the outer edge for the full wheel covers. This is why you need to weld/add them to the 6” wheels because no one makes them.

Wheel Vintiques makes the TriFive wheel in a 15X6 size with the outer nubs. $126 ea.

This must be new as they weren’t available two years ago when I was looking.

I might have seen those, but its incredible expensive for a steel wheel. I might just as well go for aftermarket mag wheels.

Default Nubs Question

I'm curious about the the little nubs referred to in earlier posts, are they actually necessary to hold the full wheel covers in place?
I do see 2 little tabs on the hubcaps either side of the cut-out for the valve stem.
I suppose they could provide a certain measure of added adhesion, or is the issue one of being whether its"correct" or not?

I have recently purchased some hubcaps for my '63 convertible, and now looking some rims. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Bill.

Yes,like Bilmcna asked, are the nubs necessary? I see them on the inner lip of the wheel perimeter, but my hubcaps are so hard to get off I just wonder if the nubs really necessary?

The nubs referenced are for 56-62 wheels/cars with full wheel covers ad not needed for 63-66 cars.

When I saw the title I thought "Great, this is a topic I want to read" and then I opened it and saw I started it 3 years ago. I'm still running the 17" x 7" mags.

mickatbp, you go ahead and bump any thread you want, there's always someone wanting to read or add posts. And it still seems to be a topic with interest.
