Technology, WITHOUT QUESTION, is a wonderful thing----------------when it works and when you know how to use it.
But today, so many people CANNOT, and have NO DESIRE to use, or even learn how to use yesteryear's technology.
How many here can saddle and ride a horse? Or hitch up a team of 4 horses to a wagon and drive them?
How many can start a HAND CRANK a car (ie Model T Ford)?
And how many here know what this is-------------MUCH LESS HOW TO USE IT?????? My 16yr old grand daughter does not!
Many of these items of early day technology are in our house------------and they work!

How many of you can remove/change a tire or fix a flat with one of these? I have one, it works great!

I’d rather fly across the country in 5 hours than ride in a train for 3 days. Modern tech does have its advantages!

My comments on all of this although not really expert as I have not owned or driven a Corvette newer than a 1986, is that while the newer ones are a technological marvel and lately much more h.p. They lack the OLD driving experience due to things like traction control which makes them much easier to drive and control verses the older ones that you actually had to DRIVE.

Regarding the price of a new C8 if the start at $62k and can run as high as $150k that is a BIG spread that I find had to believe.

There are definitely two basic types of Corvette enthusiasts for the most part, the techno type and the old school type with some crossover. However there is no right or wrong about it in my opinion and that is what makes the world go around.

Heck the price spread runs from 57k to 130k or so now.

If I want a thrill I can turn off the traction control and the stability control on my C6........

OK< but still utterly lacking in soul, don't you have to admit? We're both pretty old school, but I bet neither of us know how to hitch up a team of 4 horses to a wagon, and drive it.
and, I'm ok with that.

I will agree that in many ways, being stuck in the mid- 20th century is NOT a good thing.

The thing I dislike most about my new cars is that I really can’t work on them very much.

I love being able to work on my old cars/my 67!

Having blood, sweat, and tears invested in a car bonds me to its’ soul.

Millenials could GAS about that.....

I think the sewing machine is a White. I restored one for my wife 25 years ago. Jerry

Yep. I literally did a "frame off" restoration when I "stole" it 35+yrs ago. And I have literally done some sewing with it.

Don, we will see how much soul the C8 Z06 has at Carlisle in a couple of years when we go out for a blast😁.
Love my old cars but I am very excited about this mid engine Vette. We are all Corvette guys and should embrace the new Corvette and it's ability to compete with any car in the world. It will be world class and should make us proud.

This fear you portray has been said with every new generation of Corvette, 911, mustang, or whatever model name you choose to insert, so I wouldnt.put.much thought into it at all...

My 1912 Singer is still in "barn find" state, but it does work and everything is there, including the fold out wood case "tool kit".

The August 1941 Philco radio has been restored. And I like old phones, also.

One thing I forgot to mention: Zora Duntov wanted a mid engine back in the 60's and 70's. I think we all hold him in high esteem. Last week in New York when Mary Barra and Tadge Juechter drove up in the camo C8, Zora's likeness was on the car.
I'm not ready for Bingo and shuffle board just yet.
Bring on the new Vette!!!

The only thing I find annoying is road/tire noise, even with added sound deadener, it can be loud on some roads.

If I were to ever have another C7 or later vette I would get rid of the run-flats. Although the seats and suspension absorbed a lot of bounces, in track mode (or any mode honestly) run-flats made it ride no softer than my 62. It was a technological wonder, but not for me and was not the corvette experience I was looking for.

I've heard people refer to this before, but Ive never experienced it.

Ive had newer Corvettes but always sell them because, well, they are boring used cars after a short time.

Frankly, if I went to a car show and one of the guys in the long, long line of late model Corvettes there "looked down their nose" at my split window, I'd pretty much laugh at him.

Yes, because hitching up horses to a shitty old smelly wagon and bouncing around getting your nuts smashed is somehow better than riding in a 500+ HP air conditioned sports car...

Men were also manlier before penicillin and life expectancy was 37 years...LOL

I do but I spent a lot of time on my relatives farms when I was a kid. Many good memories of those day.

It 's all about memories to me and what I grew around in the 60's and dreamed of having one day. Maybe today's youth will want a late model C in 20-30 years, but most likely not, since it will all be electric by then.

C-1's are rude, crude and beautiful. It just all depends on what you're looking for.

Fun thread is entertaining, and I'm pleased that the C1/C2 crowd cares one way or another about America's longest-running car brand badge name. I, for one, would be sad to see the Corvette disappear from showrooms once and for ever, but it cannot remain in its present form and it can't go backwards and survive. As has been pointed out, the demographic of buyers continuing to increase in years is going to condemn the Corvette to obsolescence. Soon it will no longer be a front engine V8, but it didn't start out as one, either.

For one, I'm excited about the long-awaited mid-engined Corvette, and I hope that they sell record-breaking numbers of them. I'm willing to argue that somewhere that Zora is wondering what took Chevy so long. In the 50's, he was ahead of the American performance curve with innovation.

I like horses, and steering column-mounted spark-advance, but can adapt, too.

YMMV!
