This question is about 1969 Camaro. I posted on a Camaro forum, but got no response.
Is the number (VIN) on the dash supposed to match the VIN on the trim tag? I'm not sure if this is normal or if there is something going on. Here is what I'm talking about.
My son told me he knows of 2 or 3 cars that are like this.
From: Middle TN by way of KY, OH, VA, IL, CA, FL, NY, SC, HI
To be perfectly clear, what Keith said was that the Body by Fisher serial number does not match the car's original VIN, not that the car pictured is legit. I don't think anyone here weighed in on that question.
There were two different trim tags used on 69 Camaro's. That's second design one, which was used from January 69, to the end of production in December 69.
The tag decodes as follows:
12437 = Coupe body style (12467 would be a convertible).
711 = Black standard vinyl interior.
10E = Body assembly date, 5th week (E) of October 1969 (10).
NOR = Norwood Ohio assembly plant.
158325 = Is the body build number.
3DY = Is actually BDY to indicate the body number.
61 = Burnished Brown exterior color.
B = Black vinyl top.
X11 = Indicates that the car was built with the "Style Trim Group", RPO Z21 . An X11 could be either a standard Camaro, or an SS350 with Style Trim Group. Style Trim Group included black painted rockers, rear quarter louver trim, stainless drip gutter trim and wheel opening moldings. Fender pinstripes were included with Z21 on base Camaro's, but not SS350's. Dark colors like Burnished Brown, might not have had the black painted rockers.

Figured someone else would have already said it, but there are hidden numbers on 69 camaro's that are on the upper cowl, sometimes visible through the vents, other times the cowl panel must be removed (4 small bolts). these numbers should match the last digits of the vin.
