I installed my dash insert on my 1960 Corvette. I got the nuts installed on the 3 bolts that are on the insert. I was able to get the bolt installed on the left side of the insert but I have not been able to install the bolt on the right side of the insert. I can get my finger up to the bolt hole but I can't get the bolt in. I've tried numerous ways to get the bolt in but have had no success. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the bolt in on the passenger side of the dash insert? Thanks, Steve
I've been waiting for someone to ask about this little problem. Bolt does not come through the insert enough to get a nu
t on it.
Get a wood work furniture attachment screw from the local hardware store. Grind a few turns off the pointed end and fit a washer over the end. The screw is threaded on the inside so it will fit through the hole and grab the stud. Just tighten enough to draw the stud through and it should stay after you loosten the nut.
And it works... makes easy work of a hard job. Just takes a little time to make the tool... .Maybe I should make some and sell them because it really makes the job easy.
I bought a 1/4"-20, long coupling nut,and turned one end down small enuf to fit through the dash frame slot about 3/8" through the slot. Used it in the center to pull the insert in to get the two side nuts on, then tightened those a bit and put the normal center nut on.
One common issue with this installation is that people think all the foam needs to be removed from the back side of the dash pad behind the insert.... this foam helps keep the dash pad behind the insert it's just a royal pain to collapse. I still have my original pad here and posted many pictures of it on our tech site so that people would know what needs to stay and what needs to go. But if you remove the foam from behind the insert the pad can pull out from behind it over time.http://repairs.willcoxcorvette.com/1...-pad-cut-outs/
