Default Forth headlight wire

I’ve not been able to identify this “extra” wire coming from the driver’s side headlight tub. It was left hanging (not connected to anything) after my paint job. I took the headlight tub out before I checked to see if it was charged. All lights work as they should and I don’t see the wire listed on the wiring chart in the assembly manual. I wanted to be sure I wasn’t missing anything, so I’m seeking aid. Thanks,

Jim (‘62)

I see more than one wire in your photo. Which wire in your mind is the extra one? It's hard to tell from your photo what wires are coming from where. My suspicion is that it is a ground wire, and if all your lights are working (headlight, high beam, park and blinker, then possibly it is a ground for your horn that is in that general area and likely needs a ground.

Maybe this will help. The green, red and dark blue are coming from the wire bundle to the headlights. The light blue lower wire in my hand enters the headlight tub besides the bundle.

That is helpful. In the photo, that wire to which you refer does not look light blue, it looked black to me. On my car, which is a 54, my light blue wire is in the separate pig tail that goes to the separate round park light/blinker light which is down below the headlights. Because I am still wiring my car as we speak, I can't recall if the light blue is a signal or park light, but it is one of those two.

You said all your lights were working so unless there was some other auxilary light, like a driving light or fog light mounted elsewhere, that was taking power from your headlight circuit, I'm at a loss.

One other thought.

It's obviously a workaround that someone use to fix a problem. I don't know how long that wire is, or how far it could reach, but does it go to a light on the dash to tell you when the high beams are on? Inside the headlight tub, what does that light blue wire look like? is is just bare wire or is it terminated?

Here’s a picture of where the blue wire is connected. It is terminated on the tag end with a screw secured connector. I see now that someone spliced the blue wire in for some unknown reason. I believe I have what I need thanks all. Jim

Maybe the PO was doing something like this. Is the wire on both sides?

Wow. Who knows, he may have. No, wire only on drivers side. Jim
