Default '55-'57 Engine cradle?

Looking for non-side mount mobile engine cradle idea.

Are you talking about an engine dolly. I modified a standard dolly to use the front engine mount points on the early engines. Used it for many years on a 56 265 engine.

Here is a rough idea of what it looked like

I put the engine on the stand while still attached to the cherry picker. I mounted the front plates to the engine, then fabricated up the posts to attach the plates to the dolly.

Ed's solution is probably the best you'll find. There just isn't much call for an engine cradle for an SBC without side motor mounts.

If your just looking for ideas I suggest making a wood mock up. Heck you can make a full cradle out of wood, wheels included. 2x4's and a chop saw will do it and a wood cradle maybe all you want. Make a drop in cradle w/o wheels just to push into a corner for storage is all many need.

Good luck.
