I have a brand new harness from Lectric Ltd installed. The below photos show the two clips from the dash harness to accept the set of wires coming from the steering column, which I have also pictured. I assumed that since there were 6 corresponding colored wires, that they just plugged in as like color to like color, but that is not correct. One thing I noticed is that the pink wire in the clip, is the ignition wire, but it is also tied to the pink wire that goes to my rear left blinker, which confuses me. So, my question is this: which color wire from my column (the 6 loose wires) gets plugged in to which color wire in the clip? Because there are no fuses in this car, I don't want to burn something up. Thanks.
Even tho I converted to 12 volt, mine are color to color. I’m surprised you didn’t get a wire schematic with your harness. I also added an inline fuse for each component. There is a thread on how to add fuses, you’ll have to search for it.
Thanks Dan. I did buy the laminated wiring diagram, and I will have to double check how mine reads. I did hook my column up as like color to like color, but I got no signals. All my other lights appear to be working correctly. I thought perhaps there was an error in the diagram because I noticed one other anomaly on my laminated diagram, and that was that it shows a pink fuse going to the gas gauge, when they had a pink wire with an eyelet for the gas gauge already. I need to check for a short in my left rear taillight, as when I had everything wired up, I was getting a very mild shock when I touched that bezel. Let me do some more checking. If the consensus is like color to like color, then I have to go with that and find out where my problem is.
Well, I don't think so, as my flasher is already hard wired into the harness, and there is no connection for it. My flasher has 3 wires; a yellow and red wire on the left and right, and a black wire that is the ground, but they are all terminated. My laminated diagram says that fuse is for the fuel gauge...but that didn't seem right and right now, I have it loose. My pink wire in the steering column clip is tied to the ignition switch, so I expect it will get power there, as soon as I turn the key. I will have to check that with my volt meter, as I have only been checking ohms, so far.
So here is a close up of the relevant part of the steering column of my wiring diagram. It is different and the colors don't match up for the steering column. I also took a photo of the part of the diagram that shows the fuse going to the gas gauge...along with the other pink wired with the eyelet. Again, I just don't think the diagram is correct because you don't need all those wires going to the gas gauge. I will spend some time this weekend trying to piece it together, and will report.
Dan, the more I stare at this, maybe you are correct that the fused link is taking power from that same place as the gas gauge, but it feeds the flasher. I'm going to try hooking that up.
I figured I would close out my own thread. Yes, the steering column wires DO get matched up color to color, and the reason why mine was not working was that the fuse does not give power to the fuel gauge as I presumed, but rather it takes power from that location and feeds the blinker. So, all my electrical is now working. Thanks for the help. Now, I just have to put gas in it, and see if it will start.
