Forum needs some fireworks for the imminent July 4th holiday, so how about a thread to critique this 63?

https://www.thelastdetail.com/1963-c...upe-c-1052.htm

I'm having a hard time finding a lot of faults based on the photos, but I am sure some people can see more than me.

My (minor) criticisms are the replacement oil pan, and the fill area where the cage meets the fiberglass in the B-pillar area looks different on each side (might mean something, might mean nothing at all).

Is the inside of the door painted wrong? Maybe red-on-red was painted differently?

The seat vinyl sure is glossy.

Aftermarket (brass?) radiator

Gauge bezels have been cleaned of the dull aluminum paint

Valve covers for early '63 but 89xx VIN, which I think would have late valve covers.

Spin-on oil filter instead of cannister

Good call on all points. I just looked at the most recent TIMJG, cites the breakover point from early to late stamped covers was around #13,000.

Well, my mistake on the valve covers, then. I admit I'm surprised the early covers survived that long and I'm well aware the judging manual has more than it's share of errors.

The last split window I looked at for the OP got flipped so I’ll bow out. I don’t mind looking over cars that potential buyers intend to keep and I’ve even traveled to do so.

That's completely false. It never bought that car intending to flip it. I owned it 6 months, made thousands in improvements with the plan of keeping it, then sold it due to an investment opportunity that did not materialize.

Default Stamp Pad

Is it me or does the block stamp pad look odd. I’m no expert but I’d have it verified by a expert before I spent my hard earned $$$.

I think it is you. I see nothing wrong with it. How many people try to fake a 300 h.p. engine?

Jim, I have no idea personally. You very well may be right, and the guide is wrong. I've never owned a lower-hp small block, so I know nothing about the nuances among stamped valve covers.

Stamp looks OK to me also. Maybe we need a thread just about the stamp in order to get traction.

I have about 15 others in my photo library +/- 1000 serial numbers of this car, and I didn't see anything amiss about the stamp in comparison.

Here are a couple that are pretty close...

Over all, I think the car looks pretty good, especially the VIN stamp.

Thoughts on the price?

Good luck... GUSTO
