I did read about an incident in Florida a few years back where at a traffic light an incident escalated to the point a person in the front car stopped at the light, got out and walked back to the car behind him and jerked open the drivers door. Whereupon the driver placed several slugs into the person opening his door. No charges were filed under Florida’s Castle Doctrine.

People actually need to READ what the Castle Doctrine is for their locale - it is not a "get out of jail free card" or ironclad rule; its a set of legal principles that may (or may not) apply in a specific situation...and may not provide civil immunity...

The Chicago cop who shot the kid in his car after he himself had exited would not fly here. Unless there was an unwilling occupant about to be kidnapped, or he was about to be run over, threat did not exist.

I agree. Each state independently defines what it means and applies to.
