Default Carpet

Hello All. 1961 car.
How far under the seat is the carpet supposed to go?
How is the floor supposed to look/ be finished behind the seat?
Does anyone have a picture or diagram of the rear seat hold down brackets and bolts?
Thank you,
John

Thanks very much sir.
What I can not see in the pics is what the floor is supposed to look like behind the seats?
The carpet in my car does not go all the way behind the seats (the rear seat hold downs are missing but that's another story)

No carpet behind the seat. You should have the rear hold downs.

Thank you Jim H. What should the floor behind the seat look like? Painted? Black? Color of the exterior? Interior?
The rear hold down hardware is completely missing for some reason. Oh well, it looks like the parts are readily available and not too pricey.
Thanks very much again.

Default Footwell carpet pieces

So I've followed the carpet installation pdf but seems footwell carpet needs a lot cut off on the sill side for the bit that fits around the door jamb to fit snuggly; looks like I'd even need to cut in to the heel pad. Am I missing something?

John, here’s a photo of my 61 when I was removing all the wrong carpet , etc. Should give you a pretty ood idea of how it looked when it left St. Louis.

I hope this helps.

Good catch, looks a bit wide to me, but my reference is '57, so may be different.

Maneuver it around till you like the fit, looks like it could go to the right and front, push into corners hard. Don’t trim until heel pad, gas pedal, and the edging are where you want them, it is a compromise.

I agree; all about the pivot ball and the pedal ... and the rear 'flap' fitting against the door return nicely and evenly and when I did this the heel pad was all wrong. I got about 1" trimmed off the left side of the heel pad and all looks like it should work just fine now. Al Knoch carpet, I can't explain it either, it's like the heel pad was too wide. I could have just (maybe) got the LH kick panel to fit but the heel pad would have been right up against it or maybe even over it which I wasn't overly happy with. Having trimmed off a bit from the pad (upholsterer + restitch makes it look much nicer imo.

What I don't understand, is why all of the floor doesn't have carpet, seems a bit poverty stricken with no carpet under the seats and behind the door return. Is it because of that open top where water can wet the carpet and 'less is more' when it comes to wet carpet.

Mick
P.S. will come back with some photos once all is fitted...

About 1
About 1" cut from the left side of the heel pad, looks nice and even now.
