Default Engine won’t start

‘65

Shipped the instrument cluster off for restoration last winter and finally got everything put back together. Engine hasn’t run in ~9 months. Engine tries to crank but just never fully starts. Just looking for any general tips/ideas that I can check out. Not a mechanic by any means, but I ‘know just enough to be dangerous’

Thanks!

Battery is fully charged
Put fuel conditioner in the tank prior to last winter
Have tried spraying starter fluid in carb while cranking

Hi Ike,

Does the engine crank over but the car won't start or is it a cranking problem?

If a Won't start problem:

I would pull a few plugs and check for dry or wet?

Dry: needs some fuel added down the carb and crank some more

Wet - pull all the plugs - dry them out, check gap, install and hold the gas pedal down to the floor while cranking

Phil

I would either connect a jumper wire from the positive on the battery to the positive on the coil and give it a try, or I'd measure to see if it has 12 volts on the positive on the coil when key is in the crank position
