Default More numbers help, please.

I have a 58 283 that I am putting in my 59. I know what the general use was from the casting number (3756519) and when it was built from the date code, but I don't know what the pad number is telling me. it is L060l FI20 ID. Any help would be great. By the way where do you find info on what the pad numbers mean?
Thanks, Ray

The "FI20" translates as Flint, Jan. 20. That's the assembly date of the engine, and should be after the casting date. I assume this is a late 58 block.....assembled on Jan. 20 of 59. Early blocks often have single digit months....I instead of 0I, etc. Can't help with the other "stuff" Chuck

If the pad stamp is F1201D, it's a '59 283 2-barrel Powerglide used in passenger cars and trucks, built on December 1st; what's the block casting date? I don't show "ID" as ever having been used as a production suffix code.

Now, I'm confused :) We need the casting date of the block, BUT, I have to ask, is the assembly date and suffix FI20 ID or FI20I D ? If it's the latter, John' correct, assembly date of Dec 1 (12---01).

I've seen original 58 motors stamped with a single "unit" for the month....SO....if I'm right, it's Jan. 20 (1----20). Regarding the suffixes "D", or "ID"....if have no sources to check these. I can say they're not Corvette suffixes. Chuck

I agree with JohnZ that it is likely a "D" not an "ID". The only pad stamping that I know of with an "ID" code is for a 66-68 427/425hp engine used in passenger cars. With that casting number, I can safely say that it isn't one of them.
