Default 57 FI starting question

Does the starting enrichment solenoid need 12 volts to activate? I am only getting 10 volts to the solenoid.
The car seems to start much better when I apply 12 volts when starting.
This is a 4800 unit.
Thanks in advance.

As long as the starting solenoid is able to lift the fuel valve off its seat, the engine will start easily.

I'm curious what specifically you notice that's different between applying 10 Volts vs. applying 12 Volts during cranking.

Jim, If I am trying to start the car with 10v I will have to try 3 times with about 10 seconds between trying. If I have 12v The car will start
within the first try.
Thank you for you response.

Dave,
Look for wear being responsible for the difference you are seeing.

Specifically, follow the brass link rod up from the solenoid to the lever it actuates. See if you can move the lever axle up and down in its bore. If you can, the bore is worn excessively and that can contribute to difficult starting.
